At work, within the last few weeks months, some of the walls came down and cubicles became more exposed for managers.
It revealed some of their workspaces and the things behind those walls. While this is work, and they could not be personalized too much, I could tell some were different than others. Perhaps you’ve come across an e-mail forward about google’s office pictures. If not, Google has a pretty creative atmosphere to their office. Even more interesting is the Architectural Office for Selgas Cano Architects. It’s the photo below with the yellow and links to more pictures.
It reminded me of viewing workspace threads that emerge in online forums. I decided to finally post up my workspace at home [nice and tidy]. I don’t have my own work office just yet. I’m working on it though!
Here’s some pictures of my space a few months ago:

My space isn’t as cool as the architectural firm or google; however, I am pretty happy with it when coming home or just relaxing. We still want to get a few more of these canvas’ to go down the side of the wall towards the patio door. I also would love to bring in more plants to improve air quality and a for them to be a natural form of relaxation, or a connection to nature.
What can you do for your space at home?
- Clear it off and start fresh
- Add something that speaks to your inner child [I have vinyl toys and my balloon wrapped design for the Munny].
- Green! Add a bit of life with a plant, or flowers. They are soothing and a breath of fresh air.
- Creative and inspirational Magazines. Having these close by helps because you just have to quickly grab one and flip! [I love Juxtapoz!]
- Don’t settle for any desk. We went out an purchased some wood and stain and created this longer desk for maybe $45. [I still want to add storage underneath though.]
- Give your walls some life with art! [I painted these small canvas' and arranged them on the wall and they are representing pixels. Photography added to picture ledges.]
I feel that we are all different and we’re inspired by different things. What’s around us can inspire us to work in a more productive or creative manner. I personally love to have creative objects and works of art around me to inspire and make me feel better. The desk being clean and clutter free helps me with motivation as well. We all know that the desk or office that is full of junk, papers and coffee cups also leaves the mind cluttered and frustrated. I’ve found a few places online that you can browse workspaces that will inspire you to make the change! Feel free to post a link to your workspace if you’ve already got it up.

Great post. I’m a designer for a non-profit and my office is quality but so very dull and I’m trying to figure out cheap ways to bring in creative inspiration. Thanks for the ideas!
