Photography Project: NaPhoBoMo?

Every once in a while, opportunities pop up to participate in a fun filled photography project. NaPhoBoMo appears to be a fun type of photography project. Mind you, NaPhoBoMo does have some rules associated, but they are more of guidelines.  Normally, this is a project that occurs in November, but this is the Spring Edition.  I’m grateful for the this Spring edition because I was so busy during last November.  Let’s get into this a bit more though and see if you might want to participate too!

A photographer’s take on NaNoWriMo, the goal is to produce a 50-picture photobook in a month, from start to finish. This includes taking the photos, creating layout, editing for content, post-processing, all of it. In 30 days.

What My Project is going to be:

I’ve talked about the beer can project, and I want to incorporate that into NaPhoBoMo.  I’ll make this a deeper photography project by creating only black and white images and only bits and pieces of the beer cans. In a sense, I’m creating a teaser photography project for a larger photography project.  Here is a sample crop I did of another can.

Beer Can

I didn’t photograph that in the month of May, so it won’t count for NaPhoBoMo.  I must shoot new photographs and process them. If you’re going to participate in such a cool project, you can’t cheat!

Remember the NaPhoBoMo Rules and here is a quick FAQ:

Q: What do I do?
A: Make a photo book with the following restrictions:
(1) All pictures must be taken in the month of November.
(2) All layout, editing, and post-processing must also be done during the month of November.
(3) The deadline for a final PDF is November 30th, at midnight.
(4) The final book must have at least 50 pictures.
(5) Post progress and completion at the
NaPhoBoMo Site

Q: Why 50?
A: NaNoWriMo’s goal is 50,000 words. And a picture is worth 1000 words.

Q: How do I join?
A: I’m still working on figuring something out to make that really nice, but in the meantime send me a note: andy at berdan dot ca – and I’ll add you to the participants list.

Q: Who’s responsible for this craziness?
A: NaPhoBoMo was created by
Andrew Berdan.

Remember the fun you can have with your photography. Don’t get hung up on all the technical stuff before getting out and taking photos. The point of this photography project is to experiment with an idea and not sweat the technical BS that holds so many people back from creating awesome photography.

Are you participating? What’s your project?

PS – Are you one of those people that wishes they were making more use of your camera instead of thinking about it? Let me know!
