London Wedding Photography is a Competitive Market

Wedding Photography London Ontario by Scott Webb of NuwombIt’s overwhelming to see london wedding photography directories that scroll endlessly. The Bride says: “Whom to choose?”  A wedding photographer says: “How to Compete?

I did a google search the other day and I was blown away.   There are about 6, 400,000 search results! Why would anyone decide to try and start-up a wedding photography business in London? I looked through the results and found that you’re not only competing with the London Ontario Market, but the London, England market as well.

There are a number of companies in my city, the London Ontario version, and it may just be my perception as I see a top 3 or 4 being used all the time.  Is it possible to break into wedding photography here? I don’t know.  Is it worth a shot? I think so.

A year ago, I said I wouldn’t do any wedding photography because I wasn’t interested.  Interestingly enough, I got engaged and wow did things change. We started looking for wedding venues, wedding photographers, and many things.  In these plans for my own wedding, I was left with some interesting feelings.  I was upset with the types of wedding websites that were available online and I said I was not going to create something at The Knot because I know how to actually create and design sites. In my world, online and offline have merged space and time.  Having an awesome website to show your wedding details is important.  Even more important as a wedding photographer, I wanted a more elegant way to show engagement photographs (before the wedding), and wedding photographs (after the wedding).  In thinking about offering a service to help brides and grooms with beautiful wedding websites, I thought about getting into the London wedding photography .  London seemed ‘full.’  I opted to just stick with wedding websites.

Fast forward even more recently, people started to ask me why I would not offer wedding photography packages too? Great question! Everything has been unfolding perfectly.  I believe the David duChemin Vision-Driven workshop was so emotional for me because before it aired, I decided wedding photography was important because of the great moments and memories created.  In the workshop, David duChemin says 3 simple words: Photography is Life.  I realized that I get out of bed everyday to try and express that very statement.  It’s the reason I exist.  How can I continue to express that cause and belief? Wedding photography is a perfect way to do that.  It connects with “Nuwomb” on so many levels.

In such a competive marketing, I intent my wedding photography to capture images that evoke the feelings that life is worth it and constantly remind the bride and groom of their life together.  I don’t know about, but when I view a memory – just thinking about a time – I see warm colours, vibrancy, possibly glow but I think that glow is actually the nostalgia.  It’s like you don’t remember fine gritty details.  I am sure there are some people that do remember the most fine of details, but most of us get this overwhelming feeling that isn’t easy to put into words.   Coming from a place that constantly looks for these kinds of moments, and to represent these kinds of moments makes it perfect for London’s wedding photography industry.

Is it possible to break through the wedding photography gates here in London? Possible or not, it’s something I intend to do because wedding photography is how I’m going to help amazing couples transition into a new life together.  I intend to find creative ways to make their experience unique, awesomely fun, and try to push the envelope.
