Have a Wordpress Theme You Can Be Proud Of With Little Effort

I have been blogging for Months now and it’s taken time to get in the habit of consistently updating.  At first, I was using Wordpress theme’s that were Free Theme Templates. There are so many free themes, and you can totally start a blog / website with amazing free themes.

Free Comes at a Price

I found that as great as free themes were,  I was spending a lot of time trying customize it for myself.  You’ll have to customize any theme you implement,  however I found the themes consumed a lot of my time and still lacked a professional, clean, and designer look.

I don’t know how I stumbled upon premium Wordpress themes, but this is when WooThemes came into my life.  Right away I was super impressed with the look to all of the themes; however,  I was a little timid about the cost though.   This is when I went with a cheaper company for some of their premium themes.   I am not going to mention the name,  as it didn’t last too long before I found myself back on WooThemes and taking the plunge into a wonderful world of Wordpress theme design.

Premium should be Premium

What was the problem with these other Premium Themes? I agree that premium themes should be “PREMIUM” and I got a better feeling by working with these initial premium themes.   I began to have some questions about the theme’s and modification and I found that the support seemed to lack in a number of ways.  It was hard to find the issue that I was dealing with to see if it was already addressed in their forum.  It was also pretty quiet around the forums and I didn’t see a lot notice a lot of updates from the design team.   Meanwhile I saw WooThemes, coming out with more and more themes on a consistent basis and I decided to look at what type of support they provided. I also started to use

Take the Plung

I went ahead and purchased a couple themes [2 for 1].  I was blown away with the back end! This is what was missing from the first company.   I easily found their options page within the Wordpress admin and it was beyond simple.  If I didn’t want to customize little things, I would never have to because this was great – Right out of the box.   I was able to start writing content and work on the little things over time.   It’s a sigh of relieve and I noticed that using WooThemes became effortless.

Talk about Support

I had never experienced a wordpress update with a premium theme and recently Wordpress upgraded from 2.7.1 to 2.8.  I was too eager that day and updated 1 of by blogs with the version 2.8 and noticed a couple minor problems with my theme.  I went to WooThemes Support area of their site and they had already updated all of their themes on the same day.  It was brilliant and I was blown away with the ease of everything.

Think about your Blogs Future

This is where you’re going to get the biggest bang for your buck.   Yes, Premium Wordpress Theme’s cost money but think about times when Wordpress is going to move into a new version and what might happen to your theme.  There could be some adjustments that happen to the design and functions of your site.  How much time to you have to fix these issues yourself? If you’re a coder, it’s probably no problem at all.  Most of us are probably not fluent in CSS or anything to fix these issues quickly.   I am glad I stumbled upon WooThemes because I am now proud of my blogs and their wordpress themes with the least effort possible.  If you’ve been on the fence, you will not be disappointed with WooThemes.   Their themes have actually inspired me to create more blogs, and work harder.  I also love that they have a commitment to release at least 2 brand new designed Wordpress Themes monthly.

Below are a 2 themes:

Irresistible [FREE Theme that Rocks and I have hardly done any customization]

Irresistible WooTheme - Free Premium Wordpress Theme
Fresh News [Amazing Theme and Very little customization as of yet].

If you’re not ready to shell out the cash for a Theme or 2 [Currently they have a sale 4 for the price of one til July 24 2009], then check out their free premium themes to get a feel of the options adjustments and the ease of modification.

You can also check out the “showcase” section of their awesome new website for examples of when people have done with customization.  This blog here – Nuwomb Creative – is using the Open Air Theme and I’ve modified a few things regarding the layout style.  It’s a pretty cool theme and I don’t see many customizations on the showcase.

  1. I was going to blog almost the same story. ;-) I wasn’t sure I needed a premium theme, so I tried a few free ones. There are some decent free themes out there with decent support. I even bought a very modestly priced theme, but I spent an entire day on it trying to add a logo. I did learn how to do it changing the .php file, but I thought – I just can’t spend all day figuring out each and every step of this.

Even when I decided to buy a premium theme, I had a hard time deciding between Thesis, Frugal and Woo. I finally decided on Woo because they had such a great selection of themes ready to go. They were also very helpful and prompt in answering my pre-buy questions. I’ve just starting using my Themes, but I’m quite pleased.

Nice customization of “Fresh News” on your site. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do with mine yet. Probably some scrolley, tendril, faint designs coming down into the background.

  2. I think it’s something most people go through when they are blogging. It’s easy to think and go with a free theme. I went through a few free themes, and I really think I learned a lot about the code and some basics of coding. Like you I just realized I don’t want to spend the time with it all. I do have this desire to design my own photoblog theme. I still might one day in photoshop, and then send the psd files to be coded for me. I don’t know if I want a project like that yet though.

The premium wordpress theme market is getting interesting though. Which excites me with WooThemes as well because I know they are going to rise to the occasion and go beyond. The support is the biggest help, I can honestly say that I have peace of mind that if something goes weird or a new version of wordpress comes out, they’ll have a fix/update in no time. That’s something you would probably never think about with a free theme. I also get kind of addicted to wanting more blogs to use more themes! haha.

I’ll have to check out your site from time to time and see how your customization goes. I’m sure it will be cool and compliment your photography.
