Some of you faithful subscriber’s may already know that I am trying to move into a photography business of my own. The main part of the photography business would be to do with lifestyle portraiture and that means photographing people. It’s an uber challenge for myself. I have always opted to shoot landscapes, architecture, still objects, or street scenes [the kind of photography you find on my photoblog - Urban HDR]. I love and adore that type of photography and it will never ever stop, but I’ve been looking into expanding my horizons and monetization. Portraiture, Weddings, or service based photography is an avenue of monetizing my photography, having an amazing time meeting people, and forming bonds. The thing is that I need to become more comfortable with photographing people. It’s quite a feeling to notice that you’re gaining confidence in this respect and I want to continue to improve and have a great time doing it. This is where the Freestyle Photoshoot comes into play. I am using it as a way to become more comfortable with photographing people and creating fun and interesting portraits. It’s a learning experience, modeling experience and social event all wrapped up into one.
Probably well over a year ago I came across Tanja-Tiziana, a Canadian photographer, Artist and Torontonian Photoblogger. She was posting photographs from what she called her “Freestyle Photoshoot.” The photographs were interesting and it seriously seemed like a really cool time. I didn’t really understand what a freestyle photoshoot was at the time but it was explained.
The Freestyle Photoshoot Concept:
A a huge no-rules photo shoot where everyone gets in front of the camera(s). Make it what you will. Be prepared to meet new people and even be photographed with them at some point.
What to bring to such a photoshoot:
A prop, an outfit, a friend… or many. Anything goes.
Photographers:
Photographers are very welcome, but *must* be willing to join in the madness in front of the camera! Got it?
I am planning to set one up very very soon on a Sunday – Tentatively, for Sunday August 9th, possibly weather dependent. I have a few ideas for the location and thus why I am going to wait on announcing the date and location. I am committed to brining, and participating in exciting photographic, and artistic opportunities in London. I love the fact that Tanja does these every so often and I am committing to doing them ever 3 months.
So, mark your calendar’s for August 2nd August 9th! I’ll be posting the Location here and in a few other places online. If you’re in the London, Ontario area, please feel free to join in the fun and get some awesome photos. Spread the word out and get lot’s of involvement! I know David Redding is also planning something rad called a “Gorilla Portrait Session” and hence, the tentative date as well. So for now, August 2nd, but we’ll see 100% next week.

Sounds like good fun for a shoot. I wish you all the success in your venture – and that you keep cool outside today! And I also think it’s cool you credited the Flickr peeps for the photos. So many people don’t do that on blogs anymore. :)
Cheers,
Mike
